Clickbait Assassin - The Most Common Dark Pattern
You are not alone. Thousands of websites are using dark patterns to sneakily capture your attention.
It's common to scroll down the page and click on all the links, only to find out that what you are reading is not what you think it is. It's very simple to fall for such schemes, as they are often used to trick us into doing things we don't mean to do.
One example is the content presented when you get a notification, such as the one above. You have already made a decision that you want to read that article, but what you are actually reading is a link to an article.
Another example of the same principle is when you start a video. The video will start playing, but if you stop it, you will be taken to a website, and if you continue to play, you will be taken to a video on the website.
It's common to be fooled by these schemes, especially if you have just finished reading an article, and a video starts to play.
The most common dark pattern is to show you content that is relevant to you when you are not interested in it, so you have to work hard to make sure you don't end up on a website or video that you do not want to visit.
We all want to be happy and have fun, but it is very easy to click on things that we don't want to.
The aim of Clickbait Assassin is to make sure that you only click on things that you are interested in.
